Oscar Piastri Refuses to Be Sad After 2025 F1 Title Quest Falls Short
Despite the heartbreak of falling short—just 13 points behind teammate Lando Norris—Piastri was quick to focus on the positives. “On a personal level, it’s obviously not quite the ending that I wished for, but when you look at the season as a whole, I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to put in,” he said.
Abu Dhabi: A Race of What-Ifs
Piastri’s championship hopes hinged on a combination of his own performance and the misfortunes of his rivals. He started the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in third place, knowing he needed to win. However, a second-place finish—behind Max Verstappen and ahead of Norris—wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.
“When things have been good this year, I’ve felt unstoppable. Ultimately, I’ve learnt a lot about myself. I think that will only help me going forward.”
Team Spirit and Mutual Respect
Throughout the season, Piastri and Norris pushed each other to the limit, but their rivalry never turned bitter. Norris himself praised Piastri’s talent: “I have to give a congrats to Oscar, because he’s driven incredibly and at some point he’s going to get the better of me.”
Piastri echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the strength of the McLaren team and the progress made together, highlighting the collective effort that nearly delivered a historic 1-2 finish in the championship.
Looking Ahead: The Future is Bright
While the 2025 season ended in disappointment, Piastri’s performance has cemented his status as one of F1’s brightest talents. His ability to bounce back from setbacks and his relentless pace have drawn comparisons to legends like Alain Prost. “I’m looking forward to plenty more fights in the future,” he said, already setting his sights on 2026.
For now, Piastri remains philosophical. “It’s been a really enjoyable season. I’m saying that as the person who isn’t champion.”
