Pirelli Unveils Redesigned 2026 F1 Tires: New Look, New Era

Pirelli has officially unveiled its new range of tires for the 2026 Formula 1 season during the post-season test at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.

The Italian manufacturer used the event to showcase not only updated compounds but also a completely refreshed visual design, marking the first major redesign since 2011. The 2026 P Zero range consists of five dry-weather compounds (C1 to C5), featuring a wider and more consistent gap between each compound to encourage greater strategic diversity.

A Fresh Visual Identity

Pirelli’s new design preserves the brand’s historic language while adopting a cleaner, more contemporary look. The iconic color coding—white for Hard, yellow for Medium, red for Soft—remains unchanged to ensure continuity.

The updated graphics feature a pattern inspired by the checkered flag, a clear nod to motorsport heritage. This visual refresh is intended to distinguish F1 tires from Pirelli’s other products and align with the sport’s evolving identity.

Technical Adaptations for 2026

The 2026 tires have been adapted to meet the demands of the next-generation F1 cars, which will be lighter and feature active aerodynamics. During the Abu Dhabi test, teams used “mule cars” to simulate these characteristics.

Key Dimensional Changes

While the rim diameter remains at 18 inches, the tread width has been reduced by 25mm at the front and 30mm at the rear to contribute to overall weight reduction.

Strategic Implications

The wider performance gaps between compounds are expected to open up new strategic possibilities. Pirelli’s goal is to make tire choice a more dynamic and influential factor in race outcomes.

“The 2026 tires are designed to support the new technical regulations and provide teams with more strategic options. We’ve worked closely with the FIA and teams to ensure these tires meet the challenges of the next era of Formula 1.”
— Mario Isola, Pirelli F1 Director

What’s Next?

Pirelli confirmed that the tires will be homologated on December 15, 2025. They will make their first official appearance on the 2026 cars during the Barcelona pre-season test in late January. However, fans can expect to see the redesigned sidewalls as early as the winter car launches.
