Oscar Piastri on Lando Norris: ‘He’s Not Superman’ After 2025 F1 Title Win

Oscar Piastri may have missed out on the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, but the Australian driver’s reaction to teammate Lando Norris’s triumph was marked by respect and a clear message.

Piastri’s comments, made in the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, underscore his confidence and the unshaken dynamic between the two McLaren drivers as they look ahead to 2026.

“He’s still Lando Norris—it’s not like he’s become Superman.”

No Change in Team Dynamics

The 2025 season saw Norris and Piastri locked in a fierce but fair battle for the title. When asked if Norris’s championship win would alter their relationship, Piastri was unequivocal: “No, I don’t think so. I don’t think that will change anything.”

He emphasized that while Norris is a deserving champion, the team’s commitment to equality remains intact. “I’m expecting full fairness from the team and equality going forward,” Piastri stated, dismissing any concerns about favoritism.

A Season of Highs and Lessons

Piastri led the championship early in the season and was a title favorite after the summer break, but a late surge from Max Verstappen and a series of strategic missteps ultimately cost him the crown.

Despite finishing third in the standings—just 13 points behind Norris—Piastri reflected on the year with maturity. “When things have been good this year, I’ve felt unstoppable,” he said, adding that the experience has only strengthened his resolve for the future.

Respect and Rivalry

The mutual respect between Norris and Piastri was evident throughout the season. Piastri congratulated Norris in parc fermé, calling him a “very deserving winner.” He also acknowledged the intensity of their rivalry, noting that their battles have made both drivers stronger.

“We’ve pushed each other through the last three years, especially this season—it’s been tighter than ever,” Piastri said, highlighting the competitive but constructive nature of their partnership.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As McLaren prepares for the 2026 season, Piastri’s focus is clear. His remarks suggest that while Norris may be the reigning champion, Piastri sees no reason why he cannot challenge for the title again. McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella echoed this sentiment, stating that Piastri’s potential is undeniable.
